Congratulations-you are engaged!
Most likely the very first thought of a woman will be: what am I going to wear? As a former bride I know what I am talking about. I know what it feels like to search for your dress. I mean seriously. You may have clear visions about how it should look like. Or at least how it shouldn’t. And I would have wished that someone have told me back then, that it is absolutely fine to stick to my own vision.
When I started looking for a dress I was desperate. I could not find anything which came close to my vision. I did not find stores which did not look like a corny, very old fashioned, totally glittering dress hell. Don’t get me wrong, there are brides who love those satin strapless dresses but it just wasn’t me. And I ended up with something I like, but didn’t fully adore. Since I thought there was no other choice available.
As I know better today, I just want to cheer you up if you are in the middle of looking out for your dress. There are stores which offer more than that what you used to see. Your dress can also be found online. YES. Don’t be scared to try it. There are some great online possibilities, too. (Go check out Grace Loves Lace or Needleandthread)
These are my 3 holy tips for the search of your dress:
1.take your time!
You do not need to rush. You’ll find your dress. If you hurry you might get confused, so follow advice number 2 and search your way through the stores and online. You will feel it if you see YOUR dress.
2. get a clear vision!
Write down the fabrics you like, the colour (there are even blush wedding dresses which look oh so gorgeous, too) and the cuts you like. The more you know what you like, the easier you’ll find it.
3. take photos of you in your dress!
I know there are stores where it is not aloud to take any photos-but this says it all. You will have a photographer by your side on your whole wedding day and assumingly it will be the day where many other people will take pictures of you as well. Sometimes a dress feels nice, but it does not fit you from behind or another angle. I guess you are taking pictures of some of your daily clothes too before you buy them, so it is needless to say that you do the same with the wedding dress. And another even more important thought: most accessoires are bought after deciding on the dress. And since you do not take the dress at home directly it is necessary to have pictures to check on again.
And why not asking your husband-to-be for his advice? I mean he is probably the one who is the closest to you and you are preferably dressing up as well for him. So go and show him what you like. I promise he will still be in love when he sees you for the first time on your day. No matter if he has seen the dress before. It is as easy as that.
The magic will do it.
